i really like homemade grape wine i want to learn how to make it but ….so many step outside people selling grape wine isn’t that good i think your grade will be 1 hell of good wine.

So I’ve seen both ways, use an airlock for primary (or keep it sealed), and keep everything more exposed to oxygen for the purposes of yeast production. Starting to think it doesn’t really matter for primary, especially considered with this method you open it to stir it everyday anyway, giving it some dose of oxygen. About finished up with primary myself, about to switch over to secondary.

This is a hobby and it is expensive at first not exactly for replacing your store bought wine. That being said people make wine in prison with fruit sugar and bread that is drinkable. Sterilizing is a good idea but you can make a liquid that will make you drunk without doing it.

you can mix them together, I did chokecherries and grape.

    Thanks for the info.

Keep them together. As long as the juice is together, the natural and added sugars will ferment just the same. I recommend Lalvin wine yeasts. Use a D-47 yeast if using fruits. It will preserve the natural flavor better.

Grape wine is probably my favorite. This looks like the best way to do it, except I don’t have all the shit to do it lol

Bit of a weird question, but given that I live in northeastern Wisconsin…lets say I want to blend some cherries with the grapes. Can i do that all in the same bucket from primary fermentation, or should i keep them separate at first and bring them together later? Kind of a dumb question I guess, but not sure.

your site is broken when you try to view making wine from grapes or grape juice it bring you to cider.

if you use an airlock it should give you all the air the yeast needs. Or you could leave a sterilized cloth over it.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm…… Odd information and missing some key steps it looks like.

What is the goal of your primary fermentation? Because i only do one main fermentation but sometimes have problems with the growing of the yeast. Do i need to give them more air so they can grow faster or will this be a risk towards bacteriological safety?

As a child I help My dad make homemade wine where this guys steps seem overdone. You do not need yeast because that is in the skin of the grape. we use wooden barrels and proabition wine making equipment. We crush grapes and vines, did not mess with sugar or yeast. The wine is allin the grape. We sanitized wine barrels with sulfer stick that you light and hang it in barrel to kill bacteria. This was done a long time ago but I remember a lot and I know do not mess with the grape!

Why the need of using multiple demijohns for 2ndry fermentation? Why not just another clean, larger bucket?

Not true. Lets say a 84$ kit makes 5 gallons of wine. Thier are 25 bottles of wine in 5 gallons. average bottle of wine from the store is around $12. 25×12=300$ guess you need to go back to school and take some math classes

  • mgfurst

Never buy kits you usually pay the same price as if you was going to the store and buying a bottle of wine or even beer
